How Often Should You Clean Your AC on Koh Samui?
July 8, 2026·1 min read

Air conditioners on Koh Samui work harder than almost anywhere. They run year-round, in high humidity, often near salty coastal air. That means the standard "clean it once a year" advice from the manual is usually wrong for the island.
A realistic schedule for the tropics
- Every 3–4 months for a home unit in daily use — the practical sweet spot on Samui.
- Every 1–2 months if the AC runs almost constantly, you're near the beach, or someone in the home has allergies.
- Monthly filter rinse you can do yourself between professional cleanings.
Why so often here?
Heat and humidity let mold and bacteria grow inside the indoor unit. Coastal salt and fine dust clog the filters and coil faster. A neglected unit cools worse, smells musty, and quietly raises your electricity bill.
Signs you shouldn't wait
- Weak airflow or the room takes longer to cool
- A damp, musty smell when it starts
- Water dripping from the indoor unit
- Visible dust or black spots on the filter
If you notice these, it's already overdue. A proper chemical wash clears the coil, drain and fan — not just the filter.
