How Much Does Aircon Cleaning Cost on Koh Samui?
If you have lived on Samui through more than one rainy season, you already know units here run almost non-stop. That constant use in salty, humid air is exactly why cleaning quotes can look so different from one company to the next, and why it helps to know what you are actually paying for before you agree to a price.
Typical Price Ranges
Exact numbers depend on unit type, condition, and access, but as a general guide:
- Wall-mounted split, basic wipe-down: from 500 baht per unit
- Wall-mounted split, full chemical wash: from 800 baht per unit
- Ceiling cassette unit: from 1,200 baht, since the panel has to come down
- Ducted or large commercial systems: quoted after a site visit, since duct access varies
- Outdoor condenser coil clean: from 400 baht, more if the unit sits high on a wall and needs a ladder or scaffold
Villas with three or four indoor units almost always get a better per-unit rate when everything is booked in one visit, so grouping units together is worth asking about.
What Actually Changes the Price
Basic wipe-down vs. full chemical wash. A wipe-down cleans the filter and the visible front panel in fifteen to twenty minutes. It looks tidy afterward but does nothing for the coil inside. A proper chemical wash removes the fan blade, sprays a foaming coil cleaner through the evaporator, and flushes the drain line. This is the service that actually clears the black mold and dust buildup that humidity causes, and it takes closer to forty-five minutes to an hour per unit. If a quote seems unusually low, ask directly which of the two you are getting.
Unit type and access. Wall-mounted splits are the cheapest to clean because the panel comes off easily. Ceiling cassettes cost more because the technician has to remove the full grille and protect the room below from drips. Outdoor units mounted on a second-floor wall or a roof ledge cost more simply because of the access equipment needed, not because the coil itself is any different.
How long the unit has been neglected. A unit that has never been chemically washed, or has sat unused in an empty villa for months, usually needs a longer clean and sometimes a second pass. Expect a technician to flag this on-site rather than guess it over the phone.
When a Quote Is Too Cheap to Trust
A price far below the ranges above almost always means one of three things: it is only a wipe-down being sold as a full clean, the drain line will not be flushed, or the fee does not include the outdoor unit at all. All three lead to the same result: cooling that stays weak and a coil that gets dirty again within a few weeks. Ask exactly what is included before booking, in writing if possible.
When a Quote Is Overpriced
On the other end, some quotes pad the bill with unnecessary add-ons: refrigerant top-ups on a system that is not leaking, ionizer or UV attachments sold as mandatory, or a callout fee stacked on top of an already high per-unit price. A fair technician can explain, in plain terms, why any extra charge is needed for your specific unit. If the explanation is vague, get a second opinion.
How Payment Works
Most technicians on Samui, including us, accept cash, Thai QR/PromptPay, or crypto. Decide before the visit which suits you, since not every company offers all three. Same-day visits are common for standard cleaning, so you rarely need to book more than a day ahead unless it is peak season.
Getting the Most Out of One Visit
- Clean all units in the villa in the same visit to save on the per-unit rate
- Ask for the outdoor coil to be included, not just the indoor unit
- Book a chemical wash at least once a year even if the aircon seems to be cooling fine, since mold and dust build up before performance visibly drops
- Keep a simple note of the last clean date for each unit so you are not guessing next time
A clear quote and a technician willing to explain it are better signs of quality than the price alone. If you want an accurate number for your own units, book a technician and get a quote based on what is actually installed at your property.
